RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE VILLAGE’S THANKS AND APPRECIATION TO THE BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT FOR ASSISTANCE TO THE ORLAND PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT (“PAWS AND STRIPES COLLEGE”)

WHEREAS, The Brevard County, Florida, Sheriff’s Department has established a comfort dog program known as “Paws and Stripes Program” (the “Program”); and
WHEREAS, a part of the Program includes the Law Enforcement & Multidiscipline Crimes Against Children Therapy Dog Training which is reserved for law enforcement personnel and is a 40 hour training course utilizing dogs from no-kill animal shelters trained by incarcerated inmates to assist law enforcement officers who may encounter children with behavioral and emotional disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the Program has shown that law enforcement officers, accompanied by a trained comfort dog, encountering children with behavioral and emotional disabilities have determined that the children show:
Reduced anxiety and anger;
Increased communication;
Positive social interactions; and
Acceptance of responsibility;
and
WHEREAS, Orland Park Police Assistant Support Services Manager Rich Miller enrolled in and successfully completed the 40 hour Law Enforcement & Multidiscipline Crimes Against Children Therapy Dog Training through the “Paws and Stripes College” portion of the Program; and
WHEREAS, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department provided to the Orland Park Police Department its newest Department member: Leo, a black Labrador, at no cost to Assistant Support Services Manager Rich Miller for the dog or the training.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Hereby Resolved that the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Orland Park, Cook and Will Counties, Illinois, expresses their deep appreciation to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department, that the Village accepts Leo as its newest Police Department member and the Village expresses its “Thank You” to the said Sheriff’s Department for the training provided to Assistant Support Services Manager Rich Miller.
