AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5, CHAPTER 3, Section 5-3-7 OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK

Body

WHEREAS, the Village of Orland Park is authorized by law to adopt codes by reference pursuant to Illinois Municipal Code, 65 ILCS 5/1-3-2; and

 

WHEREAS, from time to time the Village determines that further changes are necessary to the text of the Village’s adopted Electrical Code; and

 

WHEREAS, the Village has determined that the amendments set out below are in the best interests of the Village and its residents and will enhance the public safety and welfare.  

 

NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Ordained by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Orland Park, Cook and Will Counties, Illinois, as follows:

 

SECTION 1

 

Title 5, “Building,” Chapter 3, “Electrical Code,” Section 5-3-7, “Amendments” of the Village Code of the Village of Orland Park is hereby amended to delete in its entirety the text of Section 210.13 “Ground Fault Protection Required” in item 3 and to substitute the following as new text for Section 210.13 of  item 3 of Section 5-3-7:

 

3. Section 210.13 is added to Article 210 and shall read as follows:

 

210.13 Ground Fault Protection required: This regulation applies to single family dwelling units only.

 

(A) Ground Fault Circuit protection shall not be required in single family residences for sump pumps. A single receptacle is required for all sump pump installations in single family residences.

 

(B) Separate dedicated circuit and receptacle required for each sump pump. Circuit shall be a 20 amp dedicated circuit.

 

SECTION 2

 

Title 5, “Building,” Chapter 3, “Electrical Code,” Section 5-3-7, “Amendments” of the Village Code of the Village of Orland Park is hereby amended to delete in its entirety the text of Section 210.52 “Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlets” in item 4 and to substitute the following as new text for Section 210.52 of  item 4 of Section 5-3-7:

 

4.   Section 210.52 shall be amended to read as follows:

 

210.52 Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlets: This regulation applies to single and multi-family dwellings units.

 

(C) Counter Tops.  In kitchens and dining areas of dwelling units, a receptacle outlet shall be installed at each counter space wider than twelve (12) inches (305 mm).  Receptacles shall be installed so that no point along the wall line is more than twenty-four (24) inches (610 mm), measured horizontally from a receptacle outlet in that space. Island counter tops twelve (12) inches (305 mm) or wider shall have at least one receptacle for each four (4) feet (1.22 m) counter top.  Counter top spaces separated by range tops, refrigerators, or sinks shall be considered as separate counter top spaces.  Receptacles rendered inaccessible by appliances fastened in place or appliances occupying dedicated space shall not be considered as these required outlets.

 

(D) Bathrooms:

(1) All gfi receptacles shall be installed on separate dedicated circuits and shall not allow fans, luminaires or equipment tied to such circuit.

(2) Each individual lavatory bowl shall have a dedicated 20 ampere circuit & receptacle. Ground fault protection can be at circuit or at receptacle.

 

SECTION 3

 

Title 5, “Building,” Chapter 3, “Electrical Code,” Section 5-3-7, “Amendments” of the Village Code of the Village of Orland Park is hereby amended to add a new Section 230.2 “Number of Services” as item 5 of Section 5-3-7 and to renumber the other items accordingly: 

 

5.  Section 230.2(F) is added to Article 230 and shall read as follows:

 

230.2: Number of Services:

 

(F) Each individual attached or detached new single family dwelling shall have independent electrical service feed / conductors, meter and panel. Each service shall be min. 200 ampere.

 

SECTION 4

 

Title 5, “Building,” Chapter 3, “Electrical Code,” Section 5-3-7, “Amendments” of the Village Code of the Village of Orland Park is hereby amended to delete in its entirety the text of Section 230.23 “Min Service Size Single Family Dwellings” in item 5 and to substitute the following as new text and renumber the other items accordingly:

 

6. Section 230.31(D) is added to Article 230 and shall read as follows:

 

230.31 (D) Min Service Size Single Family Dwellings: All services to single family dwelling exceeding 4,500 square feet occupied area shall be required to have a 400 ampere single phase service.

Note: Occupied areas shall be defined as areas within the enclosed walls of dwelling unit including basements and garages.

 

SECTION 5

 

All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed insofar as they conflict herewith.

 

SECTION 6

 

This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication as required by law.
