RESOLUTION TO ERADICATE BULLYING IN THE VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK
Body
WHEREAS, more than 13 million American children and teens a year are affected by bullying; and
WHEREAS, teens in grade six through ten are the most likely to be involved in activities related to bullying; and
WHEREAS, approximately 30 percent of students in the U.S. are involved in activities related to bullying; and
WHEREAS, studies show that children who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues; and
WHEREAS, for Bullying Prevention Month in October 2015, Village of Orland Park Mayor Daniel McLaughlin joins forces with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, The Bully Project and The Bridge Teen Center in the Mayors Campaign to End Bullying - which builds resolve for local communities to come together and improve climate community-wide for our children; and
WHEREAS, bullying still impacts far too many of our nation’s youth - about 1 in 4 children in the United States are bullied on a regular basis; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Orland Park is committed to continue to raise awareness about the issue of bullying and resolves to double its efforts to help eradicate this problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Mayor Daniel J. McLaughlin supports bullying prevention activities such as The Bridge Teen Center’s Bullying Stops Here Community Walk, bullying prevention and various awareness campaigns; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Village pledges to convene discussions with stakeholders in our community to send a strong local and national message and drive
real change at the local level this year and each year to follow for Bullying Prevention Month; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that Mayor Daniel J. McLaughlin and the Village of Orland Park make every effort to call attention to the issue of bullying in schools and in the
community while working to develop and support village-wide programs to combat the problem and ensure that all children have access to a safe, secure and positive
community environment in which to grow.
