Title

A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK’S JOINT MARKETING EFFORT WITH THE VILLAGE OF TINLEY PARK TO EDUCATE OUR RESIDENTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PURCHASING VEHICLES LOCALLY AND PROMOTING THE ORLAND-TINLEY AREA AS THE LARGEST VEHICLE DEALERSHIP ASSOCIATION IN THE REGION.

Body

Whereas, automobile dealerships are an important economic generator and employer for the Villages of Orland Park and Tinley Park, employing more than 1200 area residents; and

 

Whereas, the region’s automobile dealerships generate more than $3.5 million dollars in annual sales tax revenue for Orland Park and more than $6 million dollars for both communities; and

 

Whereas, the region’s automobile dealerships generate more than $3.8 million dollars in annual property tax revenue for local school districts; and

 

Whereas, the Village of Orland Park receives more than twenty percent of its annual sales tax revenue from automobile sales; and

 

Whereas, the Villages of Orland Park and Tinley Park have initiated a cooperative effort to educate the public that regardless of where a vehicle is purchased, the buyer pays their home county sales tax rate; and

 

Whereas, the Villages of Orland Park and Tinley Park are working together to encourage residents to support their hometowns by shopping locally as sales tax revenue supports municipal services including public safety, quality of life amenities, village events and more; and

 

Whereas, the Village of Orland Park recognizes the correlation between shopping locally and the energy conservation promoted in its green initiative, “Smart Living Orland Park,” encouraging our residents to shop locally to save time, gas and money.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Orland Park endorses the “Buy Local Campaign” with the Village of Tinley Park, encouraging area residents to support their hometown businesses and supports providing matching funds to the Orland-Tinley Park New Automobile Dealership Business Association in an amount not to exceed $25,000.
