Title
108th Avenue and 159th Street Watermain Abandonment- Proposal
History
During the course of the 108th Avenue roadway reconstruction, the watermain at the intersection of 159th Street was found to be in conflict. Because of the grade changes for the new pavement, the existing watermain will be too shallow. Based on the existing watermain configuration, this main can be abandoned without detriment to our system.
So as not to impact progress of the road reconstruction project, proposals were obtained to allow the work to be done immediately while the job is shut down for the winter. An alternate price was also requested to replace an existing adjacent valve box with a valve vault if site conditions/utilities allow.
Airy’s, Inc. of Tinley Park, Illinois, submitted a proposal for $10,327 plus $4,588 (alternate) for a total of $14,915. DiPaolo Construction Company of Calumet Park, Illinois, submitted a proposal of $15,885 plus $2,755 (alternate) for a total of $18,640. Therefore, staff recommends accepting the proposal from Airy’s, Inc. of Tinley Park, Illinois, for an amount not to exceed $14,915.
On January 14, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
