Lions Fall Fest

History

The Lions Club is requesting permission to hold a fall fest - LionDaze - at the 153rd Street Metra Station Centennial Park on September 19, 20 and 21, with set up beginning on September 18 and takedown on September 22. The event would include a large beer tent on the baseball field and the use of 35 daily parking spaces at the southeast end of the lot for restaurants to set up. Attached is the site plan.

The Lions Club proposes that LionDaze would include live bands, food and alcohol at the same site as Orland Days.  Lion Daze would not include a carnival. Proposed hours of the event are Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, 3 p.m. to midnight; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Planned restaurants include Papa Joe’s, Rock Bottom, Al’s Beef and Paddy B’s.

The Recreation Department has reserved the fields to accommodate the tent.  No large tournaments are scheduled.  If approved, the Lions Club will have to put up signs and posters prior to the event, informing commuters that the southeast portion of the daily parking lot would not be available from September 18 through and including September 22.

The Lions Club has submitted an application for a Special Events Permit. The insurance certificate, indemnification and electrical permit still have to be submitted. A letter requesting alcohol at the event has been sent to the Mayor’s Office.

On August 11, 2008 this item was reviewed and approved by the Special Event & Outreach Committee and referred to the Board for approval.

Recommended Action/Motion
