Sportsplex Main Entrance Design

History

The existing bollards at the Sportsplex main entrance are deteriorating due to the need to use of sodium chloride to melt ice and snow throughout the years. These bollards must be removed and replaced with solid concrete bollards or some type of planters.  DLA Architects has prepared a new design for the entrance that will keep most of the sodium chloride further away from the concrete through the use of buffer plantings that are highly resilient. They have designed three options and provided renderings for your consideration.  Staff is recommending plan “B” as it seems to meet the aesthetic requirements and will soften the look of the entrance with perennials and annuals while still providing a barrier for pedestrians. The Building Maintenance department will also be installing LED lighting in the median to brighten the area in the evening hours to make up for the absence of bollard lighting.
