Purchase of Network Switches for OP Police Department - Purchase

History
During the data network planning phase the Police Department computer network was divided into six (6) different network distribution closets that each service a specific section of the building. The distribution or data closets are arranged as follows;

Police Administration/Investigations,
Patrol Division,
Detention/Evidence and Recovered Property,
Communications/Records,
Training/Community Room,
Main Server room.

Data closet 1 through 5 were equipped with data switches that have 48 ports for connecting PC’s and printers or other peripheral devices. The design was developed in an attempt to provide state of the art equipment while adhering to cost restraints of the budget process.

The system as designed is functioning well now that all computer equipment is installed and operating. However, the switch devices in Data Closets 1 and 4 are nearly at maximum capacity in terms of available ports. The switches have minimal short term growth potential to add more devices. This request for purchase will acquire 1-24 port and 1-48 port switch to provide additional growth in the short term and be especially valuable in the long term. Additionally, these additional switches will be very valuable in terms of providing redundancy as a backup switch should the originals fail.

The attached cost proposal is provided by Maron Structure Technologies. This is the same vendor that supplied and programmed the original switching devices in the building. The Village purchases through Maron regularly and takes advantage of deep discounts for these types of computer equipment. The village is receives a 42% discounted government price from Maron Structure Technologies, under GSA Contract #GS-35F-4565G which is the lowest possible price.

At the 8-13-07 Police and Public Safety Committee Meeting, the members voted 3-0 to recommend approval.
