Wolf Road Improvements - 139th Street to 143rd Street - Board Approval
History
In December 1998, the Village of Orland Park and the Cook County Highway Department entered into an Agreement to reconstruct Wolf Road between 139th Street and 143rd Street. As part of this Agreement, the Village requested the County to construct a bicycle path along the west side of Wolf Road within the previously-mentioned limits. The installation of the bicycle path required that the Long Run Creek culvert be extended beyond its original length as part of the road construction. As a result, the Village agreed to pay the County 55% of the roadway widening costs, a fixed sum for the extension of the culvert, 100% of the costs of the relocation of a 20” watermain and 10” sanitary sewer and 100% of the cost of the construction of the bicycle path. The total original estimated cost to the Village was $637,000.00. This amount was originally budgeted in a prior fiscal year, a payment of $230,000.00 was made in June 2006, and the remaining $407,000.00 was carried over into the Fiscal Year 2008 Budget. Actual construction did not begin until 2006 due to land acquisition delays.
The Village recently received an invoice for the final project costs in the amount of $1,168,232.11.
On March 10, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
The total cost of the project is $1,168,232.11 less the Village’s prior payment of $230,000.00 leaving an outstanding amount due of $938,232.11. As stated above, $407,000.00 was included in the Fiscal Year 2008 Budget for this project. A budget adjustment to Account #054-0000-499.84-80 will be necessary in the amount of $531,232.11. The funding source for this budget adjustment will be fund balance of the Home Rule Sales Tax Fund.
