Cross-Access Bridge between Lowe's and Orland
History
In June 2004, the Village of Orland Park entered into a development agreement for the Lowe’s of Orland Park (156th Street and LaGrange Road). As part of this agreement, the developer was responsible for pursing the North/South bridge connection of 95th Avenue. This connection will provide cross access between Lowe’s and Orland Park Place. The cost of this connection is the responsibility of the Lowe’s development.
Over the course of the last year, staff has been working with Smith Engineering (the developer’s engineer) on the proposed plans for this important connection. Due to the anticipated prominence and heavy use of this bridge, the design and aesthetics must be appropriate. As such, the Village has agreed to pay for the cost differential between a typical bridge design and the proposed upgraded bridge design.
The total cost of the bridge, based upon current engineering estimates, is $500,000. This cost will be paid by the developer. The cost for the upgraded façade, railing and lighting will be approximately $50,000. This cost will be paid by the Village. Please see attached rendering of the proposed railing. The lighting will consist of 4 lights and will be the same light fixture as the Main Street Triangle and Orland Crossings.
On August 25, 2008 the Development Services and Planning Committee moved 3-0 to recommend to the Board of Trustees approval of the upgraded façade, railing and lighting for the 95th Avenue bridge, in the amount not to exceed $50,000.
This is now before the Village Board for consideration.
Financial Impact
Funds for the upgraded façade are currently budgeted and will come from the Orland Park Place TIF fund.
