Title
Renewal for the Global Connect Emergency Notification System
History
The Global Connect Emergency Notification System has been in use by the Village now for one year and the current contract will expire on June 1, 2012. The system has been activated on 28 occasions to notify the public of watering restrictions, a criminal sexual assault investigation, residential ruse burglary alerts, a missing child and neighborhood beat meeting notifications. To date the Village has placed approximately 100,000 calls using the system.
The annual renewal cost of the system is $0.55 per household or business. This is the same cost as last year with no price increase; for an estimated 24,500 households and businesses and provides unlimited calls and email.
The system also provides the ability for a resident to opt-in and receive the emergency alerts as a text message on a smart phone. The cost is $0.25 for each opt-in cell phone number to receive text messages and billed separately at the end of the contract term.
On June 4, 2012, this item was reviewed and approved by the Finance Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
$16,000 is budgeted for the annual service.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve the renewal of the Global Connect Emergency Notification System contract for a period of one year at a cost not to exceed $16,000.
