Title
ComEd Overhead Wiring Facilities - 159th Street Corridor
History
The engineering design of the IDOT 159th Street reconstruction from Ravinia Avenue to Cedar Road is expected to start late 2014. In anticipation of this, staff contacted ComEd to obtain estimates of cost for undergrounding of existing overhead wire facilities throughout the corridor.
There are five segments within the Orland Park corridor, as highlighted on the attached aerial exhibit, with the following estimated costs.
Red = Will-Cook Road to 113th Court (Sportsplex)- $1.19M
Blue = 113th Court to just west of 108th Avenue- $1.4M
Yellow = 108th Avenue to Norfolk Southern Railroad Crossing- $566K
Green = Railroad Crossing to Ravinia Avenue- $1.55M
Orange = Ravinia Avenue to LaGrange Road- $1.0M
Cost estimation breakdown of each segment is detailed the attached relocation summary
Estimated total = ~$5.8M plus 10% of cost for advanced engineering, which will be applied to the segment cost if actually constructed. These costs are non-refundable.
The Village is responsible for acquisition of any easements associated with relocating overhead facilities to underground. Costs may vary on actual design & construction based on the nature of the high-level estimates. A more detailed estimate will be developed as the engineering design moves forward. This estimate currently does not include installation of independent ComEd customer service lines. These costs will be established as ComEd moves forward with the design of the underground facilities.
On March 17, 2014 the Development Services & Planning Committee discussed this project and suggested approval of the Blue, Orange and Yellow segments totaling approximately $3M.
On April 7, 2014 the Public Works Committee discussed this project and suggested approval of the Blue, Yellow, Green and Orange segments totaling approximately $4.6M.
In September 2013 Public Works requested and received a proposal from ComEd to underground its facili...
