Firewall Replacement
History
To ensure the Village has connections to the internet to support Village business, redundant internet connections were implemented in 2022. When implementing the redundant firewall the existing high availability firewalls were split into two separate firewalls to protect the two internet connections Splitting the firewalls creates risk in the environment by eliminating the ability to upgrade the firewalls without taking the Village connection offline.The current Cisco Firepower firewalls cost $10,690 per year in maintenance and supporting annual cost. Switching to Fortinet firewalls with Fortiguard fitlering services would be a one time cost of $19,431.10 and an annual cost of $11,200.
Financial Impact
There is no budget for firewall replacement in the 2023 budget but there are available funds in the hardware replacement fund that can cover the cost of the firewall replacements. Once implemented, Cisco annual support of the firewalls will be cancelled and Fortinet Annual support will not be needed until 2025. The total increase in firewall support costs of $510 will be budgeted in the 2025 budget.

I move to recommend to the Village Board to approve purchasing four Fortinet firewalls and support to replace the existing Cisco Firewalls.
