71st Court and Wheeler Drive Sanitary Repair - Proposal/Contract
History
On August 15, 2007, the sanitary sewer on Wheeler Drive at 71st Court was found to be collapsed during the televising of the sanitary sewer in preparation for sliplining. This 12 inch sanitary sewer main services the Catalina Industrial area and is approximately 22 feet deep. Because this work is beyond the capabilities of the Utility Division and an emergency in nature, quotes were obtained from outside contractors for this repair.
Request for Proposals were solicited from Airy’s, Inc. of Tinley Park, Illinois, and DiPaolo Construction Company of Calumet Park, Illinois. Airy’s proposed doing the work for $15,762 and DiPaolo proposed $29,985.
Because Airy’s was working nearby, they were able to provide a significantly lower price and complete the emergency repair on August 25, 2007.
On September 10, 2007, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.

Financial Impact
This is an unexpected emergency repair and money has not been budgeted. Funds in the amount of $15,762 will need to be transferred from Contingency Account #031-6001- 433.84-95 to Sewer Lines Repairs and Replacements Account #031-6003-433.43-80.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve the transfer of $15,762 from the Contingency Account to the Sewer Lines Repairs and Replacements Account;
and
Approve accepting the proposal/contract from Airy’s, Inc. of Tinley Park, Illinois, for the repair of the sanitary service line at 71st Court and Wheeler Drive for an amount not to exceed $15,762;
and
Approve authorizing the Village Manager to execute the proposal/contract.
