Pedestrian Bridge over Route 45 (LaGrange Road) - Board Approval
History
At the Public Works and Engineering Committee Meeting on January 14, 2008, staff was directed to clarify the availability of funds for the engineering and construction of a pedestrian bridge over LaGrange Road at approximately 141st Street from Orland Park Crossing on the east to the Main Street Triangle on the west. At this meeting, McDonough Associates Inc. (MAI) of Chicago, Illinois, presented a proposal for professional architecture and design services for the pedestrian bridge, retaining wall and Southwest Highway Bridge Façade.
The Village, through the Planning Department, has received a $464,000 Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant through the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) for the engineering and construction of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge. It has been determined that the grant can only be used for the engineering and construction of the pedestrian bridge. Therefore, MAI has been directed to submit separate proposals for the pedestrian bridge and Southwest Highway Façade.
The proposal from MAI comes before you for consideration for the total sum of $209,616 to perform professional design services and to prepare construction documents for the pedestrian bridge. The scope of work includes: design survey, geotechnical report (soil analysis), preparation of construction documents, detail contract plan preparation, structural design and preliminary plans (type, size and location), civil design and accommodations for future façade enhancements similar to the Southwest Highway Bridge.
On February 11, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
No budget impact. This work is funded by the CMAQ Grant.
