Sportsplex Wood Floor Recoating
History
The wood floors in the gym and aerobic studio at the Sportsplex are cleaned and re-finished each year to protect and maintain the appearance of the floors. In the past, the floors have been re-finished with an oil based product that produced a pungent odor causing both staff and customers to complain of ill effects. This year, we would like to try a new product that is an odorless water based polyurethane though it will require two coats to provide the proper coverage. A quote to do this work was requested from the contractor that installed the new floor, Floors, Incorporated. Because this is a new approach, we recommend using the contractor that is most familiar with our facility to minimize any other possible issues that may arise.
The contractor's quote is $16,240.00. They will also guarantee that price for years 2014 and 2015 and staff recommends including this at the option of the village in the agreement.
Financial Impact
$9,600.00 was budgeted in the Sportsplex account 283-4007-443100, however sufficient funds are available to cover the additional cost.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve waiving the bid process;
And
Approve the quote from Floors, Incorporated for the cleaning and re-finishing of the Sportsplex wood floors at a cost not to exceed $16,240.00 and include an option for years 2014 and 2015 at the same price.
