Title
Inland Detroit Diesel Back Up Power Supply, Warranty, and Service Agreement - Purchase

History
The new Police Facility was equipped with a generator that will provide for back-up energy needs should ComEd power fail. The generator will provide power resources for the entire facility. An uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system provides for back-up power for those critical assets that must remain intact even if the ComEd power fails. The UPS supports most of the needs of the Dispatch Center and related areas. The UPS keeps these critical areas powered until the generator is able to come online and provide the back-up power needs.

This back-up power equipment is a complex system made up of batteries, an automatic transfer switch and a large diesel engine that powers the generator. It will be vitally important to keep this system running so it is always ready to perform. The proposals included in this requested board action include an Electrical Service Agreement and a five year Comprehensive Extended Warranty. The Electrical Service Agreement will include annual preventative maintenance and transfer switch inspection and a semi annual inspection.

These proposals were provided by Inland Detroit Diesel, the sub-contractor that initially installed the entire system. Village Building Maintenance staff reviewed the proposal and found it to be reasonable. Additionally, it was recommended that these services be provided by the installer for continuity.

The costs of these services are proposd as follows;

5 Year Comprehensive Extended Warranty $3,832.00
5 Year Electrical Service Agreement $9,798.00
Total $13,630.00

At the November 12, 207 Public Safety Committee meeting, the members voted 3-0 to recommend approval.
Financial Impact
The funds for this proposal would come from the Police Department 07/08 operating budget, account 010-7002-421.43-20 Machinery and equipment where the funds were budgeted.
