A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT AND RECOGNITION OF THE PALOS BANK SOUTHWEST HALF MARATHON RACE BEING HELD ON MAY 4, 2008

WHEREAS, on Sunday, May 4, 2008 beginning at 7:30 a.m., there will be the Palos Bank Southwest Half Marathon race; and,
WHEREAS, the route for the foot race will start at Parliament Drive and Rt. 83 and go west on Rt. 83 until just before Rt. 171, where the runners will loop the parking lot for Camp Sagiwau and head back east on Rt. 83 to the finish line at Parliament Avenue, certified as 13.1 miles with the use of state, county and local roads; and,
WHEREAS, a Health Fair/Expo will be held at Trinity Christian College Gymnasium on Saturday, May 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a pasta dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m., these events are open to all runners and the general public which will feature many exciting programs and opportunities offered by local businesses, hospitals and care facilities; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of the race is to create good will, notoriety, recognition, generate additional commerce for the southwest suburbs, and create public awareness of Prostate Cancer and the Southwest Special Recreation Association; and,
WHEREAS, recognizing and supporting this half marathon event would be beneficial to all communities in the southwest suburban region in that it will bring recognition that such an event can be a success in the area, and it can serve to promote economic activity, and shed a positive image of the southwest suburbs through encouraging healthy lifestyles; and,
WHEREAS, the race will be a yearly rotating host, where other qualified municipalities in the southwest suburbs will have the opportunity to host the race and re-map the course in their jurisdiction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Village of Orland Park, Cook and Will Counties, Illinois, do support and recognize the Palos Bank Southwest Half Marathon being held on May 4, 2008.
