Sidewalk Gap Program Extension - Contract/Proposal
History
The Public Works Department initiated a Sidewalk Gap Program five years ago to fill in areas throughout the Village where sidewalks were missing. This program has been very well received by our residents.
Last year’s contractor, Kats & Sons, Inc. of Palos Hills, Illinois, has notified us that due to the increase in fuel surcharge costs, their price for this year will be need to be increased from $4.15 sq./ft. to $4.40 sq./ft. This is the first cost increase for this program in over two years. Staff has been very pleased with the work this contractor has done and the $.25 increase is justified due to the elevated fuel surcharge costs. Therefore, Public Works would like to extend the contract/proposal from Kats & Sons, Inc. of Palos Hills, Illinois, for sidewalk installation for a cost not to exceed $4.40 sq./ft.
On June 9, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.

Financial Impact
The 2007/2008 Fiscal Year Budget has a Board approved budget line item in the amount of $25,000 for the installation of sidewalks in areas where gaps exist.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve waiving the bid process;
And
Approve extending the contract/proposal from Kats & Sons, Inc. of Palos Hills, Illinois, for sidewalk installation for a cost not to exceed $4.40 sq./ft. with a total amount not to exceed $25,000.
