2008 Snow Flake Pole Decorations
History
The village purchased 100 unlit snow flakes for the poles on LaGrange Road from Bright Ideas, Inc. of New Lenox, Illinois in 2006. Bright Ideas stores, installs and takes down the decorations along Ravinia Avenue and Centennial Park. The LaGrange Road pole decorations are stored at Bright Ideas but are installed by Public Works staff.
A total of 115 street light poles are being upgraded to accommodate lighted decorations. Staff is proposing to have the 100 existing snow flakes wired and bulbed with LED lights that will meet the electrical requirements of the light poles. The cost to install, secure, connect and test lights for the snow flakes is $34,931.00. The cost to purchase new snow flakes with lights already installed would be approximately double the cost.
Financial Impact
The 2008/09 budget includes $50,000 to purchase decorations for the Southwest Highway bridge façade. The façade is not ready to have holiday decorations installed this season; therefore, staff is requesting to use these funds to install wiring and LED lights on the existing snow flakes.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to waive bids and accept the proposal from Bright Ideas, Inc. to install wiring and lights on 100 snow flake pole decorations currently owned by the Village and stored at Bright Ideas, Inc.,
And
To approve a not to exceed payment of $34,931.00 to Bright Ideas.
