Arts Commission Proposal for Musical Event

History

The Arts Commission would like to present a new musical and dance event on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Carl Sandburg High School Performing Arts Center. The Arts Commission is seeking to include this production in the new budget.

 

The title of the program is “Footprints of the Soul” (artistic journey). Attached is the proposal that includes dancers, vocalists, an orchestra and lighting effects.

 

On July 14, 2008 this item was reviewed by the Community Events & Outreach Committee.  The committee requested that a further breakdown of soft costs be provided by village staff to insure that tickets sales would provide adequate offsetting revenue in order to include this item in the budget.  All soft costs have been estimated and are attached.  It is anticpated that the ticket sales will more than cover all related costs of this event.  Therefore, staff recommends approval of  this additional event.

Financial Impact

The budget for the program is $9,400.00. The Commission hopes to offset the cost of the program by charging $20.00 per ticket. If all 700 seats are sold, the program would generate $14,000.00.

Recommended Action/Motion

I move to approve funds in the budget to cover the upfront costs of the proposed musical and dance production of “Footprints of the Soul", not to exceed $10,000.00.
