Orland Park TV4 Broadcasting Equipment Upgrade
History
Funds were included in the fiscal year 2007-2008 budget to upgrade the local Channel 4 broadcasting equipment. This equipment is used to broadcast local Orland Park programming out on Comcast channel 4. The Village inherited this equipment from Comcast when the head end was moved to the Village Hall earlier this year and the equipment is antiquated and outdated.
After staff researched our options, we concluded that a Leightronix Nexus video server and controller would be the best fit for our environment.
This server will replace the 7 Beta tape decks, the Leightronix Pro switch, and time/base converter.
The new server can be remotely managed from any PC or outside the Village via a VPN connection. DVD programs can also be loaded onto the server from any PC. It will be easy to set up our own programming schedules with this system.
Staff received three quotes from the only three authorized Leightronix vendors in Illinois:
AVI Systems of Bensenville - $19,993
ROSCOR Corp of Mount Prospect - $15,879
Progressive Communications of Lombard - $15,320
Staff is also recommending that the board wave the bid process due to the limited vendor sources for this specialized equipment.
On June 23, 2008 this item was reviewed and approved by the Finance Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
The amount budgeted for this project is $15,000.00.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve waiving the bid process;
And
Approve the purchase of the Channel 4 broadcasting equipment from Progressive Communications of Lombard in an amount not to exceed $15,320.
