Railroad Crossing Quiet Zones - Board Approval for Professional Engineering Services

History

On January 13, 2009, the Public Works Department sent out notification to six (6) engineering companies Requesting Proposals (RFP) to provide professional engineering services for determining quiet zones for the nine (9) railroad crossings in the Village.  The RFP requested that the successful engineering company provide a completed feasibility study with recommendations for all crossings, permitting to IDOT and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and an engineer’s estimate of cost for construction.  Of the six companies contacted, three (3) preferred not to participate and one (1) did not respond.  Two (2) companies - Christopher B. Burke Engineering Ltd. (CBBEL) of Rosemont, Illinois, and Robinson Engineering of South Holland, Illinois, tendered proposals of $25,750 and $27,462 respectively.  The Robinson proposal is all inclusive while the CBBEL proposal lists the design engineering and permit process through IDOT and the FRA as supplemental services which would increase their proposal significantly.  Therefore, it is recommended that Robinson Engineering of South Holland, Illinois, be awarded the contract.

On February 9, 2009, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
