Purchase of Two New Auto Belays for Climbing Wall at Sportsplex
History
Four (4) auto-belays at the Sportsplex were taken down in 2009 due to the fact that the manufacturer would no longer guarantee their safety. After an extensive search, staff identified a system that will work safely with our wall without a high cost installation. For two belays, the unit cost is $2,790 plus $345 for the brackets to mount them. On May 17, 2010, this item was reviewed and approved by the Parks, Recreation & Environmental Initiatives Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
To cover the cost of replacing these two belays, funds budgeted for annual maintenance of the belay system ($4,200) and a deposit ($1,927) from the return of the older belays will be allocated to this project. We will budget for two additional auto-belays in FY11. The total cost of $6,270 will be charged to account 283-4007-451-43.10.
