2008 Design/Build Watermain Installation and Replacement Project - Proposal
History
As part of our Watermain Rehabilitation Program and to improve water quality and flow, several sites were identified for improvement and included in the 2007/2008 Budget. To facilitate the work, a Design/Build Request for Proposal (RFP) was drafted and advertised on April 2, 2008.
Six individual projects were included in the RFP:
The Union Avenue Main Replacement and West Avenue Main Replacement Projects will replace older cast iron main prior to roadwork scheduled to be completed later in the year.
The Quail Hollow Watermain Replacement Project will replace a section of cast iron main under Tinley Creek. A recent main break in the Creek may have run for several days before being noticed. HDPE watermain will be used in this area to prevent further occurrences.
The Crystal Tree Watermain Replacement Project will replace a failing section of watermain that has experienced numerous breaks. Plastic watermain will be used due to the presence of highly corrosive soils in the area.
The Eagle Ridge and Mission Hills Watermain Replacement Project along with the 135th Street Watermain Replacement Project will add new watermain thereby eliminating several dead ends which will improve water quality and fire flow capabilities.
Two responses to the RFP were received and opened on April 24, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. PirTano Construction Company Inc. of Addison, Illinois, submitted a proposal totaling $1,566,695. Airy’s Inc. of Tinley, Park, Illinois, submitted a proposal in the amount of $1,471,024. Therefore, it is recommended that the proposal from Airy’s, Inc. of Tinley, Park, Illinois, be accepted for the 2008 Design/Build Watermain Installation and Replacement Project for an amount not to exceed $1,471,024 plus $78,976 contingency for unexpected expenses for a total of $1,550,000.
