New Police Vehicles - Purchase Approval
History
On February 18, 2008 The Board approved the purchase of six Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor vehicles from Miles Chevrolet in Decatur, IL for a total cost of $111,915.30. On February 26, 2008 we were notified by Miles Chevrolet that they would not be able to sell us the vehicles at the Illinois State purchase contract price, as General Motors would not be giving them any bid assistance to be able to offer us the vehicles at the cost below the Illinois State purchase contract price in which they had proposed.
In the current 2007/2008 budget we budgeted $336,000.00 for fourteen (14) new police vehicles. The Police Department is requesting to purchase three (3) 2008 Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor vehicles for a price not to exceed $19,097.56 each, three (3) 2008 Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor unmarked vehicles for a price not to exceed $18,464.05 each from Bill Jacobs Chevrolet, 2001 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, Il., 60435, Tx: 708-444-2124 at a total price not to exceed $112,684.83
The purchase prices are quoted in accordance with the Illinois State purchase contract for these vehicles. This purchase would still be under budget by $51,084.22.
On March 10, 2008 this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Safety Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
Financial Impact
The current 2007/2008 Budget has $336,000.00 budgeted, line item #091-5006-431.70-20, Vehicle/Equipment Fund Reserve.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve rescinding the motion made at the February 18, 2008 Board of Trustees meeting for the purchase of six 2008 Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor vehicles at a cost of $18,652.55 each from Miles Chevrolet, in Decatur.
And
Approve the purchase of six (6) 2008 Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor vehicles from Jacobs Chevrolet, in Joliet at a total price not to exceed $112,684.83.
