ORDINANCE AMENDING THE VILLAGE CODE TO ESTABLISH NEW WATER RATES
Body
WHEREAS, the Corporate Authorities of the Village of Orland Park, Cook and Will
Counties, Illinois, are authorized to take such actions as pertain to the government and
affairs of the Village; and
WHEREAS, provision of water service to its citizens and the setting of rates therefore are
matters pertaining to the government and affairs of the Village; and
WHEREAS, the Village commissioned a comprehensive water and sewer rate study
covering the fiscal years 2008 to 2012 which was presented to the Village Board at its
meetings of May 21, 2007 and June 18, 2007; and
WHEREAS, after the Corporate Authorities adjusted water rates pursuant to the
comprehensive water and sewer rate study, the Village received notice that the City of
Chicago would be increasing the rates charged to its customers by 15% on each of
January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009 and 14% on January 1, 2010, due to increasing costs of operations and maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago’s water rate increases will be passed along to the
Village of Orland Park by the Village of Oak Lawn, from which the Village of Orland
Park purchases Chicago water; and
WHEREAS, because of the current sound financial position and reserve policies of the
Village of Orland Park’s Water and Sewer Fund, only a portion of the above-referenced
rate increases will need to be collected by the Village resulting in increases of 10.1% in
fiscal year 2008 and 3.0% in each of fiscal years 2009-2012;
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Ordained by the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Orland Park, Cook and Will Counties, an Illinois Home Rule Municipality, as
follows:
SECTION 1
The above recitals are hereby incorporated into this Ordinance as fully as if they were
restated in this Section in their entirety.
SECTION 2
The Orland Park Village Code, Title 4, Water and Sewer, Chapter 3, Charges and Rates
