Art Fair/Purchase Award Program -- Approve
History
Erin Melloy, EM Events, LLC, the consultant for the Art Fair has suggested that the Village of Orland Park approve a “Purchase Award Program” for the 2008 Art Fair in order to attract more artists. We are a small show and many artists will sign up for Orland Park’s show, but will cancel if they are accepted to a larger show. This program has the approval of the Arts Commission.
The “Purchase Award Program” is a “pledge” from a patron in a pre-determined amount of money. The patron comes to the art fair and shops for artwork from any one of the artists of the patron’s choosing, spending the total amount of the pledge.
People would “pledge” to spend a specific amount at the Art Fair. The pledges would be: $100 Rembrandt, $250 Monet, $500 Van Gogh and $1,000 Picasso. The person pledging would then receive a certificate to fill out and sign. This is a non-binding certificate and helps us keep track of dollar amount pledged and utilized.
In exchange for each pledge, we will have a ribbon(s) at the information booth with the patron’s name imprinted on it. When the patron has walked the show and decided who they are going to purchase from, they come to the information booth and tell us who they are purchasing from, get the ribbon, go back to the artist, pay the artist for the items and give the artist the ribbon to hang in the booth, take the artwork they have chosen and they are done with the pledge commitment.
Pledges would be advertised in the Orland Park Public, village community bulletin board, perhaps in the water bills and on all materials used to publicize the Art Fair.

I move to approve the Purchase Award Program as presented to promote the 2008 Art Fair on July 13 & 14.
