Title

151st Street Lift Station Generator Exhaust - Proposal

History

In 2005, a building enclosing an emergency generator and controls was built at the 151st Street Lift Station (9100 West 151st Street).  The exhaust for the generator was routed through the rear (north) wall as is typical at all of our other sites.  Due to the large size of this diesel generator, a significant amount of black exhaust is generated.  Because the pipe is routed through the wall, the exhaust envelops the building giving the impression that it is on fire.  Numerous calls to Public Works and the Fire Department have resulted.

To accommodate the exhaust, proposals were obtained to reroute the exhaust through a faux chimney on the roof.  Directing the exhaust up will eliminate the impact from the building.

Two proposals were obtained for this unique work - Genco Industries, Inc. (the original contractor who built the building) of Crestwood, Illinois, submitted a price of $9,885 and Meccon Industries, Inc. of Lansing, Illinois, submitted a price of $15,231.  Therefore, it is recommended that the proposal from Genco Industries, Inc. of Crestwood, Illinois, be accepted.

On August 11, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
