History
Overview and Background
The 2014 Budget includes $100,000 for a Village Wayfinding and Branding Program. Wayfinding and branding were important issues identified in both the Comprehensive Plan and the Strategic Transportation Plan. The Open Space chapter of the Comprehensive Plan went into detail describing the different, and sometimes disjointed, ways that open lands, trails, parks and recreational facilities are presented to the public in the form of signage. The transportation plan discussed the lack of clear wayfinding to direct visitors and residents to key Orland Park attractions like Centennial Park, Village Hall, and Orland Square Mall.
The project should achieve two primary goals:
1) Provide an implementable wayfinding program for the Village that will include sign design and sign locations.
2) Refresh the Village's brand in order to unify departments and facilities.
We are currently preparing an RFQ to solicit proposals from consultants to complete the wayfinding/branding project and would like feedback on the proposed purpose and objective.
Project Purpose
Orland Park desires to establish a comprehensive community identification and wayfinding signage program. The wayfinding signage program will be incorporated throughout the main vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle corridors in Orland Park. As part of the project, the Village also desires to refresh and unify other branding efforts including overall Village branding and branding for Downtown Orland Park.
A successful plan will:
1) Include an implementable wayfinding signage program that is designed to project the unique character of Orland Park.
2) Reflect and accentuate the unique character of the Village and take into consideration all existing public signage throughout the Village, including open lands, park and municipal signage.
3) Refresh and consolidate current branding and logo efforts.
