AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE COMPENSATION AND REIMBURSEMENT OF THE VILLAGE PRESIDENT OF THE VILLAGE OF ORLAND PARK, COOK AND WILL COUNTIES, ILLINOIS

Body

WHEREAS, Section 3.1-50-10 of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/3.1-50-10) provides that the corporate authorities of a municipality may, by ordinance, fix the salaries of all municipal officers who hold elective office for a definite term, provided that said salaries may be neither increased nor diminished during the officer’s term and such salaries will be fixed at least 180 days before the beginning of the terms of the officers whose compensation is to be fixed; and


WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees is charged with serving the residents in the most fiscally responsible manner possible; and


WHEREAS, following the adoption and implementation of Ordinance 5135, the Board of Trustees has had an opportunity to reevaluate the proposed duties and salary of the Village President; and


WHEREAS, as part of that evaluation, the Board of Trustees has determined that the current professional staffing levels of the Village, eliminates the need for the Village President to devote his/her working hours to be the equivalent to those of a full-time Village employee at a current annual expense to Village taxpayers in the amount of $150,000.00; and


WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees finds that it is in the best interests of the Village and its residents to have the professional staff of the Village of Orland Park engage in promoting and facilitating the economic development of the Village and to assist local businesses, organizations and individuals with creating and establishing economic development plans and promoting the Village to new purposeful opportunities; and


WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees finds that it is in the best financial interests of the Village of Orland Park, its residents and taxpayers to reduce the Village President’s compensation effective in April, 2021; and
