Title
Wheeler Drive Re-pavement with the Spur 2 Project
History
As part of the Spur 2 Project, the Regional Water System (RWS) contractor, retained by the Village of Oak Lawn, will be milling-and-repaving the Wheeler Drive roadway sections impacted and/or damaged by the Spur 2 Project work. However, this work will only pave about half of the Wheeler Drive. Wheeler Drive is scheduled to be milled-and-paved by the Village in the next one to two years. Therefore, the staff recommending to mill-and-repave the entire Wheeler Drive, impacted by the Spur 2 Project, as part of the Spur 2 Project. Completing Wheeler Drive pavement work now would make it convenient for the residents of this area to not deal with roadway construction again and eliminate the need for the Village to go back in one to years to mill-and-pave the Wheeler Drive.
The Oak Lawn’s sub-contractor for the roadway work is K-Five Construction Corporation (K-Five). The Village has collected (attached) a proposal from K-Five to mill-and-repave the remainder of the Wheer Drive at a total cost of $492,912.90. The work includes the following items:
· 11,420 Sq. Yds. of mill-and-pavement work.
· Temporary construction and removal of 92-driveway ramps.
· Asphalt returns at street intersections.
· Traffic control and protections including flagging, required signs and barricades.
Addressing unknown soil conditions such as undercuts are not included in K-Five’s project scope. Any concrete work for sidewalk and ADA ramps is also not included. Staff is recommending including $49,300 as a contingency only to be used to mitigate unacceptable soil conditions. Therefore, the total cost for the project may be $542,212.90.
Financial Impact
The total cost for repaving the Wheeler Drive, impacted by the Spur 2 Project, is $542,212.90. A budget amendment will be presented to the Board in the coming weeks to pay for this project.
