Title
145th Place Sidewalk Analysis and Feasibility Study
History
There is a gap in the existing sidewalk network along both the north and south sides of 145th Place, west of the intersection of 145th Place & 82nd Avenue. Engineering staff are exploring options to install a sidewalk on the north side of 145th Place. The goal is to connect to the future 82nd Avenue Multi-Use Path project, which will run on the west side of 82nd Avenue. Engineering Resource Associates, Inc. (ERA) has completed Final Design Engineering Plans showing a new sidewalk along the north side of 145th Place. The study will evaluate various sidewalk alternatives.
The proposed 145th Place sidewalk is consistent with the Village’s interest in providing pedestrian connectivity throughout the system. Sidewalk already exists for nearly a half-mile stretch west of this location extending to 88th Avenue and Schussler Park. Extending the sidewalk eastward would close the gap between 88th Avenue and 82nd Avenue providing continuity through the pedestrian network and improving safety by not requiring eastbound pedestrians to walk on the street to reach 82nd Avenue.
Additionally, this sidewalk will comply with ADA requirements for providing a safer and equal pedestrian connection for physically disabled residents and visitors.
Engineering Resource Associates, Inc. will conduct a Sidewalk Analysis and Feasibility Study detailing the pros and cons of each of the options. This will be a great tool to determine the next steps at this location.
Financial Impact
This study will be funded from the Engineering’s Ops Budget.
