Title
3-Way Stop Signs
(138th Street and Carolina Lane)
History
A resident contacted PTAC pertaining to safety concerns due to increasingly dangerous speeding on 138th Street, particularly near the intersection of Carolina Lane. Many drivers are using 138th Street as a cut-through to avoid LaGrange Road between 135th Street and 143rd Street. As a result, vehicles are traveling at high speeds through a residential neighborhood. This is especially concerning given the number of children who live here, play outside, and wait for school buses along this street.
The submitter’s residence sits on the corner of Carolina Lane at 138th Street, and the homeowners frequently signal drivers to slow down. There is limited visibility on 138th Street due to the curve in the road. Cars often come around the bend at high speeds without being able to see oncoming traffic or children nearby.
There have also been multiple instances of drivers completely ignoring stopped school buses with their stop signs extended.
With the ongoing construction on Southwest Highway, traffic diversion through their neighborhood appears to be contributing to this issue, and it does not seem to be improving.
The resident is requesting a 3-way 'Stop' sign intersection of 138th Street and Carolina Lane.
