Public Works Electric Vehicle Charging Station Project

History
On March 16, 2026, the Village Board approved the purchase of one Kenworth T880E Class 8 battery-electric truck with dump body and a dedicated level-3 DC fast charging station, via the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s “Driving a Cleaner Illinois” Grant program. With delivery of the electric truck anticipated shortly, electrical improvements are required at the Public Works facility to accommodate the installation and operation of the new charging equipment. Public Works has developed a related scope of work, referred to as the Public Works Electric Vehicle Charging Station Project.

The scope of work includes electrical improvements necessary to support the installation of the Village-provided electric truck charger. Work will include furnishing and installing a new 400A circuit breaker and buss detail in the existing 1200A main electrical service panel, installing approximately two hundred (200) feet of 4-inch conduit to a new 400A panelboard on the south wall of the garage, and installing a 250A breaker within the new panel to serve the truck charger. The project also includes installing approximately ninety (90) feet of 2½-inch conduit from the new panel to the loft area stairway, installing the charger at that location, and furnishing and installing four (4) 6-inch pipe bollards for equipment protection.

As the location of the charging station will need to be moved to east storage garage (the Tomb) once the Public Works Renovation Project is complete, the project also includes infrastructure to support future electrical and communications. This work includes installing approximately one hundred sixty-five (165) feet of 3-inch conduit from the new 400A panel to the east wall, providing wall cores for conduit routing, and installing approximately one hundred (100) feet of 4-inch PVC conduit for future power and one hundred (100) feet of 2-inch PVC conduit for future communication ...
