History
In 2023, Evolv Weapons detectors were effectively utilized at Village special events, including the Centennial Park West Concert series at a cost of $8,100 per date, and during the Taste of Orland Park at a cost of $13,800. This screening process is one of several measures undertaken as a part of the production of large scale Village events to ensure the safety of attendees, vendors, entertainers and staff.
Rather than rent detectors at a per event cost, staff recommend purchasing weapon detectors for use at large scale Village events.
Attached, pleased find quotes from Event Metal Detectors, LLC (Evolv), Yates Enterprises (Opengate) and Callahan Security Consultants (Garrett PD6500i). While the Evolv system proved effective in 2023, these units come at a higher purchase cost, as do the Yates Enterprises units. Callahan Security Consultants, an Orland Park based security consultant business, offers the Garret PD6500i 32.5” wide walk-through metal detectors.
The Garrett PD6500i utilizes four times the detection coils of competitive models, provides uniform detection and precise pinpointing. Independent zone indicator lights on both side panels identify not only height but also left, center and right locations for one or more objects passing through the archway. The PD6500i meets the world’s highest test certifications for large volume functions including the Olympic Games, World Cup 2010, International airports and the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium. These units offer dual detection, optimum performance, directional counter, tamper proof, superior versatility and advanced broadband detection technology.
Staff is requesting Board approval to purchase four (4) Garrett PD6500i walk-through metal detectors, with covers, from Callahan Security Consultants at a cost of $30,307.16. This includes four (4) Super Scanner Wands, casters, battery back-up, shipping, training and set-up.
Callahan is an authorized seller of Garret weapon detectors for Chicagoland area, offering the most cost effective, with the proven expertise, 3-year warranty and customer support to ensure the effective use of this system. The purchase of the detectors includes four Super Scanner Wands utilized in support of the PD6500i, and for individuals with implanted medical devices.
Financial Impact
There is $50,000 in 1009220 444500 for the purchase of weapons detectors.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to approve purchasing four (4) Garrett PD6500i weapons metal detector units and covers, along with four (4) Super Scanner Wands from Callahan Security Consultants at a cost of $30,307.16;
AND
Authorize the Village Manager to execute all related contracts, subject to Village Attorney review.
