History

Chicago Trolley Company has provided service for the Holiday Shopper Trolley Service since the program’s inception. This is the thirteenth year of service.

 

 

One day of service has been added due to the calendar placement of the Christmas holiday. Chicago Trolley’s rates have been adjusted for a cost-of-living increase of 3.5% for this season. The village’s rate is $88/hour, still significantly lower than Chicago Trolley’s other contract rates of $125/hour. The total for the 2007 holiday season is $56,056.00.

 

 

The trolley service begins on Friday, November 23, 2007 and continues every Saturday and Sunday through Christmas, on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. One extra trolley is added on Friday, November 23 and Saturday, December 16 for service to the Eagle Ridge and Brook Hills areas to and from Orland Square. Two trolleys will also be pulled from the route to use at the Winter Festival on Sunday, November 25 at no additional charge.

 

 

To help defray costs, the village offers sponsorships. Businesses may purchase 80” x 20” panels displayed on the trolleys. Advertising rates are $600 per sign if ordered before November 1 or $650 if ordered after November 1. There is also a 10% discount for two or more signs. Prices have remained the same for thirteen years. Due to the increased cost of the trolley service each year, staff recommends increasing the advertising amount to $650 per sign before November 1 and $700 per sign after November 1 and keeping the 10% discount for two or more signs.

Financial Impact

The expense for the Holiday Shopper Trolley service is included in the budget.

 

ON OCTOBER 8, 2007 THE COMMUNITY EVENTS AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.

 

Recommended Action/Motion

I move to approve renewing the contract with Chicago Trolley Company of Chicago, Illinois for the 2007 Holiday Shopper Trolley Service at a cost not to exceed $56,056.00;

 

And

 

Approve increasing the advertising rates from $600 to $650, and from $650 to $700;

 

And

 

Approve payment of a 50% deposit of $28,028 upon contract acceptance and balance due to be paid on or before January 2, 2008.
