PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The applicant seeks to remove and install new playground equipment in the existing playground area at High Point Elementary located at 14825 West Avenue. The playground is located to the northeast of the building.

Site Plan

The proposed playground improvements include all equipment shown in the rendering and the equipment schedule on Sheet SD1.1 of the plans. Synthetic turf is proposed beneath the swing set, while a poured-in-place rubber surface is proposed throughout the remainder of the play area. Playground surface colors are identified on Sheet SD6.1. The plan also includes four benches and two cantilevered yellow shade structures.

Three trees are proposed for removal. One tree located within the play area will be removed due to the size and configuration of the playground. The remaining two trees, located outside of the play area, are dead. Each tree is approximately 6 inches in diameter.

Per the Land Development Code, tree mitigation is not required for trees identified as dead or in poor condition. The applicant proposes to plant three 3-inch caliper Autumn Gold Ginkgo trees to offset the other tree removal on site.

Overall, the project conforms to the Village’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Codes and policies for this area.
