Planning Overview

Avis Budget Car Rental proposes to install 2 Evercharge Level 2 EVSE car charging stations at the site. Both proposed exterior charging stations are located on the building north elevation.

Overall, the project conforms to the Village’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Codes and policies for this area.

SITE PLAN

According to section 6-306.N of the Land Development Code, EVSE technologies must meet and comply with the most up to date provisions of the National Electrical Code for Level 2 conductive power stations and be approved by Underwriters Laboratories. The petitioner has proposed two exterior wall mounted car charging stations at the site. Both of the proposed charging stations have a power output of 48A.

Mechanicals/Utility Conduits

Per the Land Development Code, " All associated and ancillary equipment, batteries, devices, structures or support(s) for EVSE shall be screened from the public right-of-way with low native landscaping. Cables, wires and other transmission conduits or lines, with the exception of the actual EVSE to vehicle plug/ adapter cable, providing connections from the EVSE to the electrical distribution point or to buildings or non-vehicle batteries must be installed underground." The proposed exterior car charging stations are not visible from the public right of way, and the petition has proposed to have all conduits installed at two panel boxes, one interior and one exterior.

Electric Utility Interface

ComEd Usage data for the site details that the highest month peak load occurred in July/August 2023 with a demand of 13.38kW. The power from the existing service panel available for EV charging is 92.49kW. At full charge rate the two proposed 48A EV chargers will use 23.04 kW of power. The additional car charging ports will add a load of approximately 92.4kW or 256.6 amps. The system can safely handle another 69.45kW.
