Title
Local Disaster Declaration - August 11, 2026, Storm Event
History
On August 11, 2026, severe storms impacted Orland Park, producing extensive wind and tree damage and localized power outages. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 105 mph impacted southern Orland Park.
Village crews and contractors have been working to clear debris, address hazards in parks and facilities, and restore access. Damage to Village facilities was noted (e.g., roofing edges at PW and CPW, Brown Park pavilion), with power disruptions affecting operations. Signals at several intersections were temporarily without power and operated under stop-control.
The attached Local Disaster Declaration enables emergency procurement, personnel reassignments, mutual aid coordination, and submission of requests to EMRS/IEMA-OHS for state/county disaster declarations, assistance, and damage assessments which could position the Village and residents for potential cost recovery and/or grant assistance if higher-level declarations are issued.
Recommended Action/Motion
I move to adopt Resolution 2619, entitled: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A LOCAL DISASTER DECLARATION AND DIRECTING RELATED ACTIONS FOR THE AUGUST 11, 2026 SEVERE STORM EVENT.
