Aquatic Weed Control 2008/2009/2010 - Bid Award
History
The Aquatic Weed Control Request for Bids was advertised on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, in the Daily SouthtownStar Newspaper. The bid request was for a three (3) year period - 2008, 2009 and 2010. The bid specification was separated into two categories: Schedule “A” (regular treatment) and Schedule “B” (as-needed treatment only). There are a total of seventy-four (74) wet ponds totaling 128 acres of water under the Village’s jurisdiction. The fifteen (15) “A” list ponds totaling 23 acres were determined based upon past treatment needs. The “B” list consists of fifty-nine (59) ponds and 105 acres.

Bids were opened by the Village Clerk’s Office on Monday, March 3, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Four bids were received.

The four (4) companies submitted bids as follows:

Aquatic Weed Technology of Roselle, Illinois
$47,100 for 2008, $48,508 for 2009 and $49,957 for 2010

Autumn Blaze Tree and Turf of Oak Forest, Illinois
$20,240 for 2008, $20,240 for 2009 and $22,270 for 2010

W.B. McCloud & Co., Inc. of Schaumburg, Illinois
$14,070 for 2008, $14,360 for 2009 and $14,650 for 2010

Winkler’s Tree Service, Inc. of LaGrange Park, Illinois
$134,977.05 for 2008, $141,725.90 for 2009 and $148,812.19 for 2010

Schedule “B” prices are on a per acre basis for algae control and per acre basis for weed control. The treatment schedule for “B” ponds is on an as needed basis and is strongly influenced by temperatures, rainfall and the surrounding landscape.

Therefore, it is recommended that the low bidder, W.B. McCloud & Co., Inc. of Schaumburg, Illinois, be awarded a contract for the treatment of aquatic weeds in ponds listed in both Schedule “A” and Schedule “B” for a three-year period (2008, 2009 and 2010) for an amount not to exceed the Board approved annual amount.

On March 10, 2008, this item was reviewed and approved by the Public Works and Engineering Committee and referred to the Board for approval.
