143rd Street Metra Station ADA Door Operator Project
History
While the commuter train stations in the Village were built by Metra, the Village is responsible for all maintenance of the building and equipment. The main entrance doors at the 143rd Street Metra Station are currently non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as they are not equipped with automatic operators. Additionally, the doors are of a unique, specialized style that requires a level of preventative maintenance beyond the current capabilities of Public Works staff.
In response, the Public Works Department has developed a scope of work for the 143rd Street Metra Station ADA Door Operator Project to bring the doors into compliance and resolve the associated maintenance concerns.
The proposed scope of work includes furnishing and installing new top and bottom pivot bearings, along with the electrical infrastructure necessary to support automatic ADA door operators. This infrastructure includes approximately two hundred (200) feet of exposed conduit/wiremold and wiring connected to the existing electrical panel, two (2) new 20A, 120V circuits, two (2) dual-door push automatic operators, four (4) activation paddle switches, and two (2) stainless steel paddle switch stands.
The scope of work also includes controls and wiring for magnetic (MAG) lock operation, integration of the building's security system with the new door operators, and drywall repair, patching, priming, and painting in the surrounding door area.
