Purchase of new Event Pole Banners -- Approve

History

Each summer the village installs 30 x 72 street pole banners to promote summer events. Staff is recommending new banners with a new and cleaner design which will be easier to read from the street. Each event will be a different color banner with white lettering.

 

There will be 30 banners each for the Farmers Market, Garden Walk, Art Fair and Taste of Orland, and twelve banners for Times of Civil War for next year, for a total of 132 banners, plus four sets of hardware that are needed. Then each year we send the banners back to Folgers Flag Co. to have the dates changed. Banners will be hung on light poles at the Village Center, FLC, Sportsplex, LaGrange Road, 159th Street, Harlem Avenue and 151st Street. Public Works staff installs and takes down the banners each year.

 

Folgers Flag Company of Blue Island, Illinois has made the banners for us in the past and updates them each year to reflect the date changes. The cost of the banners is $9324.00 and $244.00 for hardware, bringing the total to $9568.00. Folgers Flag is waiving the $825.00 set up fee that would normally be charged for new designs.

Financial Impact

FY 2007/08 budget includes $10,000.00 to purchase new event banners.

Recommended Action/Motion

I move to approve the purchase of new event banners for Times of the Civil War which will not be included in this group (this is for 2009), Farmers Market, Garden Walk, Art Fair and Taste of Orland from Folgers Flag Company of Blue Island, Illinois at a cost not to exceed $9,568.00.
