Title/Name/Summary
143rd Street Creek Maintenance (RFP #26-042)
History
In 2000, Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL) procured a Design-Build project to alleviate drainage issues in the Tuckaway/Old Orland area. This project consisted of clearing, excavating, and restoring approximately six-hundred seventy-eight (678) feet of drainage ditch leading into the McGinnis Slough. This drainage ditch is located along the north side of 143rd Street west of West Avenue. Permission was secured from the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPDCC) to perform this work under license number 1659. This license remains in effect and authorizes the Village to maintain this drainage ditch as needed.
The 143rd Street Widening project scheduled to begin construction in early 2027 will utilize this drainage ditch to convey stormwater from the pavement to the slough. As a prerequisite to allowing this project to begin, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has mandated this drainage ditch be cleaned and restored back to the original cross section permitted in 2000. A field visit was held on March 13, 2026, with the FPDCC to review the scope of work and discuss the necessary steps to proceed. The FPDCC confirmed that the current permit will allow access, and the original 2000 limits must be followed. If additional area is needed to perform the work, additional fees will be required but would be minimal. Work can only be performed in the month of August.
To initiate the drainage ditch maintenance project, RFP #26-042 - 143rd Street Creek Maintenance was published on BidNet Direct from May 14, 2026, to June 4, 2026.
