Community Pride Award - Evita Griskenas
History
Mayor Pekau will present a "Community Pride Award" to Evita Griskenas for her accomplishments in Rhythmic Gymnastics and qualifying for the USA Rhythmic Gymnastics Team with whom she will compete in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Evita Griskenas was born in the Chicagoland area. She grew up in Orland Park and graduated from Carl Sandburg High School. She is currently a sophomore at Columbia University in New York City where she was named to the Dean’s List both semesters after completing her freshman year with a GPA of over 4.0.
Ms. Griskenas is one (1) of nine (9) Team USA Rhythmic Gymnasts who qualified for the summer event at the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships in St. Louis. She was the highest ranked American gymnast at the 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
She was also the most decorated athlete in any sport at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru in 2019. She won five (5) medals for Team USA, gold in the all-around, three (3) gold medals in Ball, Hoop and Ribbon, and a bronze medal for Clubs.
Evita Griskenas comes from a very motivated, sports-minded family. Both of her parents have earned numerous medals in their own competitive fields, proving that good parenting and positive modeling can have a remarkable effect on the upbringing of a child.
