Discussion - Development Services Listening Sessions
History
In May 2025, a request was made to the Development Services Department to provide semi-annual listening sessions with the public and development community. As several Building Code updates were in-progress, the first listening session was conducted in June 2025. Relatively minor updates to the Building Code in relation to select building, elevator, and health codes were presented by staff and feedback from the attendees was requested.
For 2026, Development Services proposes conducting its first listening session before the busy permit season with a focus on educating homeowners on why building permits, and their related inspections, are important. For the second listening session in 2026, Development Services proposes supporting a conversation focused on the development community, and include topics such as planned Building Code updates, elevator safety, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.
