History
The proposed ordinance authorizes the immediate towing of motor vehicles standing or parked in designated fire lanes, or areas posted with 'No Parking' signage, on public roads in order to accommodate emergency fire calls.
The Parking and Traffic Advisory Committee (PTAC) reviews parking and traffic-related matters and provides recommendations to the Village Board. During its consideration of PTAC Agenda Item #2026-0605, PTAC recommended establishing immediate tow-away enforcement for vehicles parked in designated fire lanes. The proposed ordinance amendment implements PTAC's recommendation.
Below is a summary of the proposed ordinance:
Vehicles may not stop or park in designated fire lanes (except to avoid a traffic conflict or when directed by police/traffic controls). Any street side with a fire hydrant is automatically designated a fire lane, and signs must be posted noting the restriction. Town officials may ticket or tow vehicles parked in violation, and where signage is present, vehicles are subject to immediate towing without notice with towing costs charged to the vehicle owner.
