Title/Name/Summary
Spring Creek Lift Station Pump - Material Purchase Only
History
The Village has thirteen (13) sanitary lift stations for sewer mains throughout the Village that either pump the sewage to a force main or to a gravity main. Each of these lift stations is routinely maintained and inspected by the Utilities Water Operators.
In June 2025, Pump #2 at the Spring Creek Lift Station failed. After extensive diagnosis of the pump, an internal part of the pump was no longer functioning. The station is currently utilizing an identical backup pump. The fifteen (15) year old pump, a Barnes 20HP, 230V, submersible pump, was designed specifically for Spring Creek Lift Station and the demands of the station. The Operators brought the pump to Gasvoda & Associates for repair.
Gasvoda & Associates is the only authorized distributor and repair facility in Northern Illinois and Indiana for Barnes Pumps. The technicians at Gasvoda determined two (2) options; either a full rebuild of the pump or order a new pump. The rebuild would include new impeller, seals, bearings, and power cable at a cost of $24,000.00 and take four (4) to six (6) weeks to repair. The new pump would cost $29,706.00 with an eight (8) week lead time.
Staff also explored other pump vendors, but since the two (2) pumps are identical Barnes model number 6SHDK20096, and specifically designed for Spring Creek Lift Station, additional work at the lift station for a different type of pump to work would likely include the upgrading of electronics, starters, contactors, and breakers and that would significantly add additional cost to using a different pump.
Due to the pump’s age, the rebuild work replacing most of the interior of the pump, and the Village receiving a new warranty period, Staff believe option #2 is best for the Village’s sewer system. Staff is requesting sole source approval to purchase a new Barnes pump from Gasvoda & Associates, Inc. of Calumet City, IL.
