Museum Operating Hours

History

The Orland Park History Museum used to be open Thursdays and Saturdays 9am-1pm and the second Sunday of every month from 2-4pm to coincide with the Orland Historical Society. Sunday hours ceased after the previous Museum Curator resigned. In 2018, the museum added another day to be open, Tuesday 12-4pm.

Many people visit the museum on days the museum is not open. The Museum Curator also works Tuesday-Saturday. The Curator is asking the board's opinion on whether the museum should increase its hours of operation and what times would be best to be open to the public.

The idea to increase the museum's hours was first introduced at the May 18, 2021 meeting. The hope is to decide what the hours should be and when this should be implemented.

At the June 15, 2021 meeting, it was approved that the hours should change to Tuesday through Saturday from 10a-3p. However, some staff think the hours should be a little different, as currently, the museum is not in need to have so many hours and days being open. The new proposed hours is Thursday 3-7p, offering a day where people can visit after work, and Friday and Saturday 10a-3p. Although we would not be open for so many days, we would still be increasing our hours of operation from what it is currently.

It was proposed that hours of various local history museums in the area be provided to board members so they can look at other hours in order to come up with good operating hours for the Orland Park History Museum.
