Title
Village and Orland Historical Society
History
The Village of Orland Park and Orland Historical Society has had a tense relationship for quite sometime. However, this relationship began to be positive late last year. The Village and the OHS began to work on an agreement regarding the Hostert Cabins and the collections housed at the museum.
Curator Stasukewicz began to work with OHS President Christine Brooks. Ideas to partner on programs were discussed as well as working together to preserve Orland Park's history.
At the end of May, the OHS board had a falling out, causing four members to resign and leaving only three. Christine Brooks and Curator Stasukewicz spoke and the idea of merging the OHS and museum was discussed. After careful thought, Brooks and the two other members of the OHS board agreed that the OHS should dissolve and merge on with the museum. Thus, having the cabins and Humphrey House be turned over to the Village of Orland Park and being overseen by the museum.
On July 6th, McGuire and Igleski, a historic preservation company, came out to visit the Humphrey House and assess its stability. As assessment is being created for the Village, allowing staff to learn what projects need to be completed to preserve the homestead and ensure its safety for visitors. OHS member met Village staff and McGuire at the house to give access to the building.
Additional work still needs to be completed before the OHS and Museum are fully merged, but we continue to move forward with the process.
